Good Tidings Podcast S4E33: Jeremy Affeldt

Posted on May 8, 2023

Welcome to the Good Tidings Podcast with host, Larry Harper, Founder of the Good Tidings Foundation. This podcast is all about highlighting the good in people and what individuals are doing to make an impact in this world all for the benefit of others, while aiming to inspire a community of givers! On today’s episode, Larry interviews 3x World Series Champion, Jeremy Affeldt.

Jeremy begins by sharing his baseball journey leading him to three World Series championships with the San Francisco Giants. When joining the team in 2009, he never could’ve anticipated the impact the Giants would have on him, not only on the field, but also with the Giants’ community efforts and humanitarian focused mission. As a relief pitcher, Affeldt quickly learned the importance of mental strength and mental toughness, having the ability to brush off the tough moments and not fold under pressure.

Larry and Jeremy reflect on their first meeting, 10 years ago, when Affeldt and the Good Tidings Foundation partnered on a Junior Giants Field in Modesto. At the opening ceremony of the field, Jeremy gave an impassioned speech urging young people to dream. He said the gift of this field was about more than baseball; it was about life and showing kids that if you give yourself the ability to dream, you can achieve anything.

They then move on to discuss Jeremy’s decades long passion of combating poverty in the United States and throughout the rest of the world. This passion led to tackling many other severe issues such as child slavery and human trafficking which he shares are more prevalent in our communities than most people realize. He understands that these issues cannot be solved by one person, but he is working to expose it and help the problem in any way he can.

Jeremy goes on to share his newest endeavors, Free Roam Brewing Company in Boerne, TX and his podcast, Built For the Storm. The podcast interviews people who have faced storms in their lives and how they shaped them into the people they are today.
